We are now hiring a Senior Director of Advancement
The Senior Director of Advancement has overall responsibility for all fund-raising activities, communications and volunteer services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Prepare an annual development plan with goals and strategies for approval by the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.
2. Recruit, train, organize, manage and evaluate staff capable of meeting annual and long-term goals and objectives.
3. Develop and recommend an annual budget for the Advancement Office.
4. Recruit and support volunteers in planning and executing events to raise funds, promote awareness, cultivate projects, and acknowledge donors.
5. Lead the development, planning, and execution of an annual signature special fundraising benefit.
6. Serve as a resource to the Executive Director and Nominating Committee in the identification and evaluation of candidates for future board membership and volunteer leadership.
7. Participate as a member of the Executive Director’s management team and assist with the management and planning issues of the agency.
8. Develop and implement plans for strategic partnerships with Executive Director and Director of Programs.
9. Review and recommend policies for donor gift clubs and designations; incentives and recognition; receipt and credit for gift and grant commitments; the planned giving program; and gift acceptance procedures.
10. Oversee the process of gift accounting, acknowledgments, and reports.
11. Lead the implementation of quarterly donor thank-a-thon event.
12. Establish an on-going prospect identification, research and evaluation system.
13. Educate, mentor, and train volunteers in effective cultivation and solicitation techniques.
14. Develop and oversee a planned giving program.
15. Research, compile and expand prospect lists.
16. Help identify publicity and promotional needs for fund development.
17. Manage the design and production of all printed materials for development.
18. Make calls on prospects and donors, as appropriate, in order to cultivate, solicit and recognize their support. Develop strategies and follow up as needed on all contacts. Regularly review progress with Executive Director.
19. Maintain a portfolio of 25 major gift prospects and make recommendations on strategies for cultivation.
20. Monitor local and national economic, political, human services and philanthropic trends with potential impact on fund development activities.
21. Working closely with Director of Programs, maintain a working knowledge of and provide support to all agency programs and projects. Work collaboratively on all program development projects.
22. Maintain and strive to upgrade professional skills and knowledge of trends and techniques pertaining to human service fund development.
23. Submit status reports of projects as requested.
24. Collaborate with key staff to understand future program trends and budgetary implications to effectively market the needs of the agency to donors and prospects.
25. Conduct duties in an unbiased manner in which all clients, volunteers, and staff are treated equally regardless of race, gender, physical or mental abilities and sexual orientation.
26. Drive vehicle to carry out job duties.
27. Perform other duties as identified or assigned related to fund development activities.
Education:
Bachelor of Arts degree from accredited college or university. Advanced degree such as masters or JD preferred.
Training and Experience:
A minimum of 10 years experience in fund development and management. Proven success in major gifts solicitation and motivating individuals to make $25,000+ gifts. Demonstrated experience in donor cultivation and stewardship. Knowledge of charitable tax law. Campaign experience. Knowledge of fund development theory and the ability to move from the theoretical to the practical. Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills. Supervisory experience. Psychology, sociology or other human service education and/or experience. Ability to commit to the agency’s mission.
