NEST
NEST (Neighbors Embracing Seniors Together) is a new initiative by Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly in the Greater Twin Cities Area. The purpose of NEST is to create aging-in-place communities where there is connectedness among older adults, providers and neighbors.
Our NEST program is now launched and active in the Greater East Side and Payne-Phalen neighborhoods in St. Paul.
NEST was conceived to address our growing elder population, and the increasing number of older adults who are isolated, lonely and depressed. The NEST model connects older residents with neighbors, existing community support systems, care providers, and small business owners.
How NEST is unique
While NEST is comprised of LBFE’s companionship, outreach and social engagement programs, its localized nature allows us to:
- Forge relationships with community partners to heighten awareness and learn about the needs of older adults in the NEST areas.
- Connect participants to neighbors and impact their informal support network.
- Bring social engagement events into the neighborhoods, engaging older adults who are more comfortable in familiar gathering spaces.
- Serve a more diverse population, helping to improve communications and understanding among various ethnicities and age levels.
Help older adults fulfill their dream to age in place
