Professional Counseling Services
LBFE's Professional Counseling Services are available for adults over the age of 60 in Ramsey or Hennepin County who need home-based professional mental health counseling for moderate to severe issues, such as complicated grief, and do not have adequate mental health insurance coverage. The program offers staff and volunteer services of licensed mental health professionals to provide one on one mental health counseling on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Additionally, therapeutic groups related to issues of depression and grief is offered to clients served by the agency.
LBFE has incorporated a multidimensional and multidisciplinary approach to its services by adding pet therapy, using companion animals, and massage therapy. This program uses volunteers who are licensed mental health professionals with a Master's degree or higher.
Criteria for eligibility for services include:
- Age 60 and over
- Live independently or in an assisted living facility in Hennepin or Ramsey County
- Experiencing moderate to severe mental health issues which warrant professional counseling such as:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Grief and loss
- Adjustment difficulties
- Amenable to professional counseling, including participation with diagnostic testing and other basic paperwork
- Not currently participating in professional counseling
- Cognitively able to participate in professional counseling
- Clients must not be immenently suicidal or experiencing an acute psychiatric crisis which requires case management services
