2020: A Year of Transitions

2020 has brought much change and uncertainty into all of our lives.

  • In March, LBFE adjusted all in-person programs – Visiting and Advocacy, Friendship, and Flowers and social activities – and created the Elder Friends Phone Companions program. This new program allows older adults all across the state to stay connected and less lonely through your friendship.
  • All LBFE staff have transitioned to working virtually, however, all phone numbers, email addresses, and the LBFE mailing address remain the same.
  • We hope to rent our offices on Lake Street to a nonprofit whose building was destroyed in the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder. Neighbors helping neighbors!
  • COVID-19 has radically altered the way we can celebrate the holidays. Volunteer Holiday Helpers will create Gratitude Gifts and Packages of Joy to be mailed or delivered contact-less to our elder members, and volunteer Calling Carolers will share songs of cheer over the phone. Registration for these volunteer opportunities opens November 1.
  • The one thing that has remained the same, however, is our commitment to our mission, our elder friends, and to you, our volunteers. We are here to support you in whatever way we can as you share your kindness and friendship with our older adult members who could really use a friend right now.
